The IoT is huge. We speak about it often and for good reason. The Internet of Things as predicted has swiftly grown to become the next industrial revolution. Nearly every new ‘thing’ brought to market for both enterprise and consumers is connected to the Internet.

I’ve got a confession to make. I am a Cisco Spark-aholic. I use Spark with the frequency most people use Facebook or Twitter, meaning all day everyday. Fortunately my team and many of our partners are in the same boat. Since the arrival of Cisco’s flagship collaboration service the internal workflow of our organization has transformed.

My typical workday starts in the same manner each morning-coffee followed by breakfast and twitter. Years ago I read a short article that explained the first few hours of the workday can have a measurable impact on productivity over the following eight. Scrolling through Twitter while drinking coffee in slow, intentional intervals helps me to set the tone for a productive day.

With the new-year come new opportunities. On January 1st by the time our clocks strike twelve most of us have penned a lengthy list of resolutions. You’ll see fresh faces in the gym and your friends will pass on that second glass of wine at dinner. Most of us view the beginning of a new-year as the chance for a fresh start. Perhaps it’s time to think of the opportunities the new-year can bring for business in the same way.
