Aruba ESP transforms Children’s of Alabama’s digital and Wi-Fi experiences

Ranked among the top pediatric medical centers in the United States by U.S. News & World Report, Children’s of Alabama provided care for youngsters from every county in Alabama last year, along with kids from 42 other states and seven foreign countries, altogether representing more than 677,000 outpatient visits and more than 15,000 inpatient admissions. With more than 2 million square feet, it is also one of the largest pediatric medical facilities in the U.S.

Providing an exception to the hospital’s technological prowess was an outdated, poorly performing, and expensive network infrastructure. Aruba, partnering with Layer 3 Communications and ScanSource, delivered the Children’s team a new, multimillion-dollar network solution, all in less than 30 days from when the order was placed. This included a full Aruba ESP solution—Wi-Fi, CX Switching, UXI Sensors, CPPM, Remote Access Points, NetEdit, and High-Touch Services!

The list of upgrades the hospital needed—all of which were delivered by Aruba, Layer 3 Communications, and ScanSource—included:

  • Transforming the kids’ digital experience
  • Improving the employees’ Wi-Fi experience
  • Improving the employee work-from-home experience
  • Providing the best platform to support a new EMR system
  • Delivering a turnkey solution (design, deploy, rack, stack)
  • Enabling tight integration with Palo Alto Networks
One of the most powerful takeaways from this win is from Bob Sarnecki, CIO of Children’s of Alabama: “Success always leaves clues, and integrity builds relationships,” Sarnecki said. “I implicitly trust the belief your team has in Aruba. I have come to believe in it, too. It’s not a person or a product, it’s your culture: Customer First, Customer Last.”
