How does the cellular activation process work?

The first step in cellular activation is to complete the Cellular Opportunity Registration Form. Please contact your ScanSource Sales Representative so that the form can be completed.  This form registers both you and your end-user with the chosen carrier, identifies you as the partner of record, and enlists the support of the carrier's field sales team in closing the deal for a wireless voice and/or data plan.

Once the deal is closed, the carrier field rep will help you complete the Co-Sale Activation Form (Sprint Cellular Activation Form and/or AT&T Cellular Activation Form). This form captures critical information, such as the data and/or voice plan selected, the rate, and your end-user's carrier account number. Submit this form, along with your purchase order for the related mobile devices, to your ScanSource Sales Rep. (Please note the tab "Equipment Information" will be completed by the ScanSource System Integration team at the time of the activation of the specific mobile devices)

Our System Integration team will register the appropriate serial #s, SIM Card #s, IMEI #s and/or ESN #s........and note that we will activate your mobile devices.  Our integration team also has the ability to load and configure your application and drop ship the turn -key solution (blind) to your end-user.

SCANSOURCE SYSTEM INTEGRATION AND ENTERPRISE MOBILITY SOLUTIONS

With the convergence of WLAN and WAN in a single device, the configuration options can vary greatly. By leveraging our economies of scale, SS SI can configure your solution from 1 to 1000’s of terminals.

Typical Configuration Options

  • Firmware loading (O/S updates)
  • Application loading and configuration (terminal emulation, VPN client, custom applications, etc...)
  • Cellular Activation (AT&T, Sprint/ Nextel, T-Mobile)
  • Charge batteries
  • Functionality testing (terminal, application, WAN & WLAN)
  • Custom labeling (asset tag, logos, terminal ID, etc)
  • Custom reporting (serial number, IMEI, SIM ID, ESSID, IP address, Security settings, etc.)
  • 3rd party product integration and bundling for total, site specific solution delivery

To implement your configuration, SS will rev the firmware forward or backward for those custom applications to function properly, load a terminal emulation application and cellular activate with your preferred service provider. After loading the software we will configure the application, configure network and security settings and test for proper functionality. We also will label the terminal with custom logos and asset tags, bundle with customer owned product and blind shipped to the end user providing a total solution delivered in a single shipment (shipping labels have no reference to SS). If you need specific terminal data we will provide a custom report tailored to your requirements.


ScanSource SI Cellular Activation

  • Order is received in SI
  • Record unit serial number, unit IMEI number and SIM card ID number for AT&T/ T-Mobile or serial number and ESN for Sprint on Equipment Information Form
  • Forward form info to activation provider
  • Activation provider activates service plan with the applicable service provider and notifies SI when activation is complete
  • SI verifies connection
  • Process typically requires 2-3 days



The SS SI cellular activation process is: Once an activation order is received in SI, the product is picked and staged. For AT&T and T-Mobile the device serial number, IMEI number and the SIM card ID number is recorded. For Sprint the serial and ESN numbers are recorded and forwarded to the activation provider for activation. They activate the SIM ID or device with the applicable service provider and notify SI when complete. The device connectivity is verified. If the unit requires a ROM flash or custom application loaded and configured, SI performs those tasks while the activation provider is activating. If a device is DOA, SI replaces the defective device from inventory and notifies the activation provider with updated device info. The entire SI process typically requires 2 to 3 days depending on service provider requirements. Contact your ScanSource Sales representative for pricing.
