IBM POS TCO White Paper [PDF]

The purpose of this paper is to Understand the Total Cost of Ownership in Building an Advanced Store Systems Business Case.

"ScanSource makes it easy for me to do business. I rely on them for just-in-time inventory, free shipping and speedy delivery. When I order a product by 5 pm, it arrives by 8 am the next day. And ScanSource sales representatives are the best available, with strong knowledge of the products they sell as well as vertical markets and the industry as a whole. As good as ScanSource’s pricing is, the price of their products is secondary to the exceptional service they provide."

BECOME A PARTNER

HOW TO BECOME AN IBM BUSINESS PARTNER

By becoming an IBM Point-of-Sale Business Partner, you will be an invaluable link for IBM and retailers across the world. Without you, IBM would not be able to maintain its leadership position in retail and continue to deliver the solutions customers desire. The goals for IBM and you are the same; to expand business, increase profit and create new customers. As a Business Partner with IBM, you are able to lead, protect and support your customers as IBM leads, protects and supports you through our Business partner program and services.  IBM’s continued commitment to the retail industry is not only visible through the diverse product offerings, but through our way of doing business. IBM & ScanSource believe success is contingent upon a strong relationship with our Business Partners. Whether you provide hardware, software, or services, you are all equally important in providing solutions to customers, and we want to work with you. IBM and ScanSource are committed to building long-term relationships with you and rapidly addressing your needs and issues.

To become an IBM Business Partner, please read through these instructions to apply. IBM requires all applicants to complete an online application to be approved as a Business Partner.  IBM has several requirements that must be met before you can become an IBM Business Partner. An outline of the requirements is listed below:

  • Your company has been in business for a minimum of 1 year
  • You have a minimum of 3 full-time employees
  • You have a Value-Added Enhancement
    VALUE-ADDED ENHANCEMENT (VAE) DEFINED:
IBM requires its Business Partners to offer a complete solution: hardware, software and services. IBM's Value-Added Enhancement is typically defined as a software solution that has been tested to run on one of the IBM Point-of-Sale hardware systems. If you currently have marketing rights or joint marketing rights to a software that has been proven to run on the IBM POS hardware, the application process to sell IBM POS should be straightforward.
If you do not have a software solution to remarket, please look at the ISV's page to view a list of those software solutions that already have been proven to work on IBM POS hardware. After viewing these, contact one of the Independent Software Vendors about becoming a dealer of their software. Additional VAEs include POS Competitive System and POS Technology Integration. Please inquire from your ScanSource IBM Sales Specialist.
  • Evidence that you actively market the software solution that you sell.
  • Face-to-Face selling
  • Two customer references on comparable hardware for each software (VAE) you are applying to sell with IBM hardware. If your company does not have references, an IBM field representative can conduct an on-site checklist instead.
  • Must provide post-installation support
  • Must sign the IBM application
  • VERY IMPORTANT: during the application process, you must select ScanSource as your Sponsoring Distributor

If you own or remarket a software that is not included on the existing VAE list (see below), you can get this software application ported to the IBM hardware. You, or the ISV (Independent Software Vendor) who developed the software will need to procure a Demonstration Machine and test the software solution before applying to become a reseller. This is done to ensure a level of success with each installation.
